When Port Arthur, Texas rapper Pimp C passed away in 2007, he left behind a legacy spanning over two decades. During his time in UGK, Pimp rapped and produced some of the group's most memorable songs; from their watershed 1996 album Ridin' Dirty to "International Players Anthem (I Choose You)" in 2007 -- the year of his untimely death -- his music will certainly live on forever. All things considered, it's only right for a posthumous Pimp album to ultimately manifest today. “This album is the culmination of years of work from not just me, but also the amazing artists and producers who contributed to make it happen,” his widow Chinara Butler says of Long Live the Pimp. “It combines several of the ideas and projects my husband began before his untimely passing. We hope the Trill fans enjoy it.” And with guests that include Bun B, Nas, T.I., Juicy J, A$AP Rocky, Slim Thug, Ty Dolla $ign, and many more, Long Live the Pimp is a 17-track long effort that will not only keep long time fans of Pimp C (and UGK) satisfied but give new listeners a taste of what made him so special to the rap game. Rapper LE$ is sharing the visuals for "UGK'z," a tribute to the extraordinary legacy of acclaimed hip hop duo UGK. And it's only fitting that he's joined by one half of that duo, Uncle Bun. Additionally, Curren$y stops by to lay down a verse. The track is said to be on LE$' forthcoming Steak X Shrimp 2 project, dropping this Sunday (November 22nd). In the meantime, check out the visuals for "UGK'z" after the jump.
In case you haven't heard, Joaquín Guzmán Loera, the notorious Mexican drug lord better known as "El Chapo," has escaped from prison this week. So I suppose it's only natural that Lil Mexico (a neighborhood in Atlanta's infamous Zone 6 area) rappers Future, Young Scooter and Casino link up to pay tribute to the crime boss. The aforementioned rappers have owed a great deal of their careers to drugs and drug dealing as that's 80% of what they rap about, so it's kinda cool that they keep things, well, current. Check out "El Chapo" after the jump and peep Casino's latest mixtape Ex Drug Dealer 2, out now.
Whoa! Get a look at that feature list! Legends, bruh. LEGENDS. Statik Selektah is joined by Sean Price, Bun B and Styles P for "Top Tier," an accurately named track. The track will also be featured on Statik's Lucky 7 album. Peep "Top Tier" after the jump.
Future and Young Scooter team up for "Oooooh," a track that originally appeared on Future and producer Zaytoven's Beast Mode mixtape. This one, however, is an updated/new version of the track. It's set to appear on Young Scooter's forthcoming Juggathon project with guest spots from Future, Gucci Mane, and the Black Migo Gang. Check it out after the jump.
Young Scooter's "Lil Mexico" buddy Future has been killin' it lately via his mixtape run (Monster, Beast Mode and 56 Nights) so it's only natural Young Scooter would use this as some sort of inspiration. And, actually, he has. His latest mixtape Jug Season is a terrific addition to the Atlanta hip-hop cannon. Here, with the track title, Scooter channels some inner pain. Check it out after the jump.
