The soulful, exciting DMV upstart has officially arrived.

While we like to reserve Friday’s posts to celebrate the day’s musical influx, one artist has firmly captured our attention, hijacking today’s “New Music Friday”: Mr. YBN Cordae with his debut studio album, The Lost Boy.

With mounting expectations behind the exciting 21-year-old lyrical and soulful upstart, thanks to strong singles and a decorated tracklist, pressure was on for the DMV artist. With a sound 45-minute album, Cordae did more than deliver — he triumphantly leaped over these lofty expectations.

An ironic album title, Cordae is completely lucid and calibrated in every single facet throughout The Lost Boy. Each song’s unique texture retains soulful undertones, and they fit congruously to tell a story of a kid fighting demons from his adolescence, enjoying his bountiful blessings, and finding himself somewhere in between this dichotomy. The Lost Boy is a snapshot of Cordae’s young timeline; it paints a vivid picture while inviting some cool guests along for the ride.

Accompanying Cordae on this journey are a collection of some of today’s most sought-after talent: Anderson .Paak, J. Cole, Pusha T, Meek Mill, Chance the Rapper. These endorsements reinforce Cordae’s musical power and influence, framing him as one of his generation’s most promising artists.

Cordae has intrepidly conqureed The Lost Boy’s outsized expectations. The Lost Boy has officially been found.
