Craig Davis, the VP of Urban Promotions at Capitol/EMI recently did an interview with Pyramid West in which he claims to have signed 50 Cent/The G-Unit crew.  His quotes are below.

Now I’m over at Capitol Records….we just signed a 50 Cent deal over there.

50 thought he needed to get out of the Interscope machine….he wanted to do a new change.  So he got his release from there.  We’re in negotiations with him.  The deal just got signed very recently, and we have 50 Cent on the label.  I think Lloyd Banks is going to be the first cut and 50′s is going to come out after.

Now I was going to write a whole article on how this deal sounds like another step backwards for 50, when he really needs to make some moves forward, but just a second ago Miss Info came out saying:

  • Wow, Craig Davis! This is big news! Except….that it’s not true.
When I asked an insider if 50 Cent was now on Capitol/EMI….the answer was: “Hell no.”

    Well, damn *GucciMane voice*

Now we all know that Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo are indie right now, but as far as the big guy is concerned, he’s still fully in contract with Shady/Aftermath/Interscope, and still has a greatest hits album to release. But even beyond that…sources say he was not in talks to sign to Capitol himself.

As she just stated Banks & Yayo are independent, so Craig could really be talking about signing the G-Unit imprint, and not 50 himself.  If so this still seems like kind of a bum deal.  In a day and age when the majors are proving to be more and more useless, why are you going to bring you imprint to EMI of all places?  Last time I check EMI is in severe debt, like hundreds of millions, and is about to be owned by a bank.   Plus what was the last rapper that EMI gave a good look to?  I would say Raekwon, but he really put out Only Built For Cuban Linx 2 himself, and they simply distributed it.  I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens before I dedicate anymore of my time writing about it.  I do know that 50 needs to do something.
