RIP, Pop Smoke.
The music community is still reeling from Pop Smoke’s untimely passing. A pioneering artist who was just coming into his own, fresh off his acclaimed Meet The Woo 2 mixtape, Pop Smoke was taken far too early; he still had so much to accomplish, so much music to share.
While Pop was deprived of releasing an official debut studio album, his peers and OGs are picking up the baton to continue Pop Smoke’s legacy. Recently, 50 Cent — the artist who Pop Smoke drew comparisons to thanks to architecting a novel sonic direction for New York — announced that he will be shouldering the responsibility of completing Smoke’s rookie studio LP.
Recently, 50 revealed the upcoming album’s release window.
Taking to his Instagram, Fif said that the album will be coming in May. Assuming the role of executive producer, 50’s been contacting artists to appear on Pop’s premiere posthumous album, writing “oh yeah, @postmalone I’m gonna hit ya phone, I need you on this” on said IG post.
Given Fif’s respect for Pop Smoke and his New York rap ambassadorship, fans can only hope that he’s the proper individual to handle the distinct responsibility of completing this project.
Stay tuned for more details.
RIP, Pop Smoke.
