Every now and again I hear a story on the radio or on another blog and it makes me question the world and this development in the Dominican is one of those. The powers that be over there in the DR are considering a ban on certain names which they deem unsuitable. These would be names such as Mercedes, Porshe, Toshiba, Sony etc
Judge Aura Celeste Fernandez has suggested that parents who want to name their child after a German car or a Japanese electronics company should speak with officials on the connotations these names suggest.
I mean I kinda get where they are coming from as there are plenty crazy names out there BUT isn’t the naming of YOUR child up to YOU? Here are a few examples that officials have selected from their registers to prove their point Mazda Altagracia, Toshiba Fidelina, Querida Pina (Dear Pineapple), Tonton Ruiz (Dummy Ruiz) and Winston Churchill de la Cruz…need I go on?
