It was quite the teaser and disappointment when you heard Bun on the ad-lib thirty seconds into the original version from Thank Me Later.  Well, be disappointed no longer as King of the Trill is here to lay it down. I’ve heard better from Bun B, and if you compare Wayne’s verse to Bun’s verse for this particular record, Wayne brings more club appeal and I’m pretty sure that’s what they were going for and as much as I hate to say it, Weezy did his thing on the original.

For a kid that is relatively new to the game, Apollo is delivering some major league flow here over J. Cole’s “Blow Up” single. He reps Camden, NJ where there’s not much of a talent pool, but that might just change soon if he can keep this up.

Wiz does a great play reppin’ his Taylor Gang family here as he goes in over the Geto Boys classic. This is the perfect mixtape type of joint for Wiz, he has a great knack for digging up old joints that compliment his style with a new generation flip that he can tell his own story to.

Well the homie Sam was certainly right. Lloyd Banks is back and sounding like a problem, giving you that classic Banks street flow we all came to love him for since his early days. This beat knocks too. I’m looking forward to see what he brings next week if he can keep the flame going.

Another bold album title along with Black Milk’s release is Rah Digga’s, Classic, which just dropped. I haven’t listened front to back yet, but I hope it lives up to the title. This production is good, nothing great, but it will still get some burn from anyone who knows that Rah brings some heat for a female emcee. It’s not easy being a broad in the rap business these days unless your flaunting pink lambos and popping twins outta your turtleneck alongside a Cash Money co-sign. So props to Rah for taking us back on some real hip-hop, no gimmicks.

I’m a beat head, and this naturally pleases. Black Milk is definitely crazy with his signature heavy drum sounds that break your neck almost every time, and although I am a sucker for dusty breaks, you can tell with this one that he is still reinventing his sound with a more progressive approach without straying outside of his respected “wheelhouse.”

From the boards to the mic Black Milk keeps it 100, I would have to say he is one of my favorite active producer/emcees along with Kanye, Nottz, and Oddisee. I admit I have been sleeping on Danny Brown since I first heard him, I just couldn’t warm up to his voice, but I think I’m coming around and messing with the homie. Purchase your copy of Album of the Year for more neck breakers.

A great collaboration of lyrical muscle on this joint. No glitz and glamor emcees here, just bars. I’d put any of these cats (yes the female gato too) up against just about anybody in the game when it comes to the pen.  This is off his Farewell Summer EP.  When is Brother Ali dropping a new project? I’m ready.

Vado is someone who I have admittedly been sleeping on for quite some time. The Killa Cam protege goes in over the classic “Memory Lane.” Anytime you take a stab at an Esco classic you have to come correct to gain the respect from the people.
