By Quibian Salazar-MorenoIce Cube and A&E have announced a deal that will bring a pilot of a proposed reality series to the channel. The show, “Good in the Hood”, will focus on redemption and reformation and will be produced and hosted by Ice Cube. The hour-long series will feature reformed gang members, drug dealers and thieves reaching out to family, friends and sometimes strangers actively living the life that they used to and help them turn their lives around and away from the street.
"This show is a way to demonstrate what is going on in a positive way in the urban community,” Cube said in a statement.
There’s no word that if the show is accepted by A&E when it will air. Cube’s previous TV show, “Black White”, had a white family pose as a black family and a black family pose as a white family to see the difference the color of one’s skin makes in one’s treatment in society.

Oprah’s School
Oprah’s school has been under fire lately, the school she opened in South Africa where she thinks kids will appreciate things a little more than the kids in her native America. Strict food guidelines and visiting for parents of the girls in the school are what has the people talking. Oprah is denying the allegations of running a strict school..but is she denying having had plastic surgery when you look at this pic? Damn she looks plastic here.

Rhymesayers Entertainment, one of the labels featured in our Indie Hip-Hop Month, has joined Warner Music’s Independent Label Group for North America distribution. The Independent Label Group will assume control of the Rhymesayers catalog, which will be handled by the major’s independent distributor, the Alternative Distribution Alliance. The first Rhmyesayers release via the new arrangement will be Brother Ali’s Undisputed Truth, due out on April 10, 2007.
"They encompass what we look for an indie label," Rhymesayers co-founder Brent "Siddiq" Sayers says of Warner Music Group. "They have that entrepreneurial spirit. They’ve built a great thing in 10 years, and I’ve been a fan for a while. They bring a punk rock feel to do what they do when you look at how their acts tour."
Rhymesayers is home to cutting-edge artists like Atmosphere, Brother Ali, P.O.S., and Psalm One.

If you’re wondering why music played on the radio is worse now than it was many years ago, Hank Bordowitz, a veteran journalist and sometime musician is at your rescue. His book, Dirty Little Secrets of the Record Business: Why So Much Music You Hear Sucks, is an exposé of the surreptitious, unethical, and covert activities of the music industry.
According to Bordowitz, the music industry sold 938.9 million units. In 2005, it sold 705 million units, a 25% drop in only six years!
The Internet and other so-called disruptive technologies are some often blamed for sales dip, but a bigger reason, Bordowitz claims, is the industry’s reaction to new technology.
The industry ignored the Internet, and then tried to “squash it” when it first arrived. “There are a lot of issues the record business ignored,” Bordowitz says. “When things are going well, it’s human nature to ignore any possible problems. And things were going very well in the early ’90s.”
Some other reasons Bordowitz cites as being detrimental to the music industry includes payola and redundant playlists on commercial radio.
Good music is still being created, most of them don’t get anywhere near a commercial radio station or a major label. (Thank God for the Internet!)
"Music fans are going to have to dig a little deeper," Bordowitz says. "It’s not going to be laid out on your lap anymore like it used to be. If you want to hear one great song after another, you’re going to have to look for it."

Well Burger King think that is going to benefit Oscar winner JHud who was once a BK employee, but Clive Davis had to check the possible Diva when she tried to call out on the Soul Train Awards in LA this past weekend. After Don Cornelius contacted Clive Davis it is rumored that Miss Hudson was told to get herself to LA promptly. Don’t bite the hand that feeds you JHud or you might be needing that freebie at
Burger King after all.

K-Ci apologizing to Mary J Blige …at last A little too late homie for this I think..but I guess your heart is finally in the right place. They do say that time heals all wounds though.
By: RizohJohn Legend has signed British rapper/singer Estelle as the first artist on his new label, Home School. Legend wasted no time in jumping on the Brit’s bandwagon after checking out demos for her debut album.
“Estelle’s the first artist we’ve signed," Legend confirmed to MTV News recently. "My younger brother, Vaughn Anthony, is also gonna get signed soon, and I got a couple of MCs that I’m working with as well.”
In related news, John Legend once told Star magazine that he’d like to work with Paris Hilton after buying a copy of her single, “Stars Are Blind.”
"I thought it was a great song and should have done better even than it did,” said John Legend.
JL will team up with a more talented singer, Corrine Bailey Rae, for his North American tour which starts in Irving, California on April 3.

Well people in Hollywood this weekend were a little disappointed by the dismal turn out for the 2007 Annual Soul Train Awards. A List winners weren’t really in effect this year, well apart from Jermain and Janet who were there to scoop his Life Time Achievement Award from Quincey Jones. Eight out of ten winners from the main categories weren’t present to collect their awards. Those who failed to stop by
and pick up their trophies were Mary J Blige (she may have been in shock after seeing the K-Ci video), Gnarls Barkley and Beyonce. But in all seriousness…how many award shows are there during the first quarter of the year…it has to become monotonous for even the most seasoned of stars. Pleased to see Robin Thicke and his wife the lovely Paula Patton were in attendance though.
