By: Rizoh In a strange turn of events, Ike Turner, the ex-husband of Tina Turner, was falsely arrested Tuesday in Los Angeles on a narcotics warrant that was recalled in 1989. A computer glitch caused officers to cuff the 75-year-old music icon after he was pulled over for speeding on a freeway. Last night, Ike was still in custody at a Pasadena, California, courthouse while the paperwork for his release was being prepared. Turner, who told TMZ that he spent the night freezing with nothing to eat but a banana and a cookie, has now been released from jail. Asked whether he was irked by the false arrest, he said “They could’ve been right…we all make mistakes.”
By: Rizoh Amazon.com, one of the largest digital retailers in the world, has announced its plan to launch a music store. Amazon’s goal is to sell music that listeners can play on a variety of devices, be it Apple Inc.’s iPod or Microsoft’s Zune. Amazon understands that the most convenient way to sell music is by offering such flexibility to consumers. The company plans to deliver music in a format, such as MP3, that doesn’t include copy-protection software, known as digital rights management, or DRM for short. Music sold through Apple’s iTunes digital store typically has the despicable DRM, meaning you can only play it on an iPod. Problem is, music sold via other services is incompatible with the iPod. That’s where Amazon steps in. Are we seeing a digital revolution of some sort here? Amazon’s vice-president of digital media, Bill Carr, says that consumers find that arrangement "confusing and off-putting," and Amazon’s store will only sell DRM-free music, meaning that users can play their music on whatever device they prefer. Amazon says it expects to launch with content from 12,000 record labels, including EMI.

By Quibian Salazar-Moreno We’ve enjoyed her in such flicks as ‘Brown Sugar’, ‘Love & Basketball’ and ‘The Best Man’, now the rest of world is enjoying Sanaa Lathan too. The actress was named Miss Soft & Beautiful 2007 over Beyonce, Tyra Banks and Queen Latifah in recent poll held by Sister 2 Sister Magazine. "I’m so honored to be named Miss Soft and Beautiful 2007," Lathan said. "It is such a delight to be recognized by the women in my community. A huge part of my life intention is to uplift women. This means so much. Thank you." With this recognition, ‘Soft & Beautiful’ will donate its products, along with a cash donation to The HerShe Group, a charity chosen by Lathan. The HerShe Group is a non-profit organization that empowers girls emancipating from foster care to successfully transition into adulthood.
By: Hot Gossip Gal Yeah last month it was religion, this month it is acting. Death Row boss man Suge KNight is working on a reality show (who isn’t working on a reality show) about Compton..and has his mind set on making it big in the acting world. Now this should be something else. Nine or Three Times I missed this e mail last week…my bad but documents have surfaced claiming that the rapper with nine lives…AKA 50 Cent was actually only shot three times. A little bit of attention just before an album is dropping is never a bad thing is it?
By: Rizoh Police authorities in Dearborn, Michigan have been catching some flack for not prosecuting a cop caught spiking brownies with marijuana. Cpl. Edward Sanchez admitted to confiscating marijuana from suspects and taking it home for personal consumption, according to the Detroit Free Press. In an April 2006 call to 911, Sanchez is heard saying, “I think we’re dying. We made brownies and I think we’re dead. Time is going by really really really slow.” He also allegedly asked the 911 dispatcher what the score was on a Detroit Red Wings hockey game being aired that night, adding, “I just want to make sure this isn’t some type of, like, hallucination that I’m having.” Obviously, the police department’s decision not to pursue a case against their former employee didn’t sit well with one City Councilman Doug Thomas, who vowed to follow-up on the issue. “If you’re a cop and you’re arresting people and you’re confiscating the marijuana and keeping it yourself, that’s bad. That’s real bad,” said Councilman Thomas. And you thought Snoop was the only one out there smoking other people’s weed.
By: Rizoh 2Pac’s mother Afeni Shakur has struck a deal with EverGreen Copyrights that will provide the publisher with a revenue stream from more than 350 songs, countless albums worth of unreleased material, and several poems. Evergreen acquired the writer’s share of Tupac Shakur’s publishing catalog from his mom, but Universal Music Publishing Group will continue to administer the copyrights in the catalog. “I believe that after 10 years, I have done as much as I can on my own to further the creative aspect of Tupac’s music,” Afeni said in a statement. According to David Schulhof, co-CEO of EverGreen, there are several projects in the works to promote the music. Karolyn Ali, who worked on Tupac: Resurrection and Preston Holmes are producing a feature film, dubbed Live 2 Tell, from a script written by ‘Pac while serving in prison. Also in the works are: a biopic on the late legend’s life and Broadway musical featuring ‘Pac’s music. “People already have recognized him [2Pac] as one of the greatest artists in rap music,” says Shulhof, “but in time, he will be on the same level as someone like Bob Marley—someone who has an important impact on the world not only as a musical genius, but as a political figure.” Well, I’m sure people will remember 2Pac just fine, as long as we let his spirit rest in peace.
By: Hot Gossip Gal It would appear that R Kelly has a little battle going on with his ego right now. His mouth is running way faster than his brain saying that he is comparable to Martin Luther King and Mohamed Ali like he does in a recent magazine interview. "My greatest competition is, well, me . . . I’m the Ali of today. I’m the Marvin Gaye of today. I’m the Bob Marley of today. I’m the Martin Luther King, or all the other greats that have come before us. And a lot of people are starting to realize that now." Yeah right…..props where props are due..the pied piper can sing but as he awaits trial for 14 counts of child pornography I find it just a lil stomach turning to hear him compare himself to the legends he talks of. Michael Strahan Sold Yeah the NY Giant has been sold for a whopping $100,000 to two dudes who outbid a whole load of gals to share an intimate dinner with the baller. The charity auction was held in New York the other night…not quite sure what to think about this..I mean two dudes would pay that money to talk football?

By Quibian Salazar-Moreno Although Dr. Cornel West is mostly known as the profoundly intelligent and educated professor and cultural critic who is called upon every now and then to give his opinion on the state of the African-American community and related issues. Now Dr. West is teaming up with hip-hop artists to drop an album that focuses on the state of the nation. The album, “Never Forget: A Journey of Revelations,” will be released on June 19 under the organization Black Men Who Mean Business, founded by West, his brother Clifton West and producer Mike Dailey. "It isn’t a commentary on hip-hop. And I’m not coming in as a hip-hop scholar or critic," West told Billboard. "This is an attempt to go back to hip-hop’s prophetic roots, which are about truth-telling, exposing lies and having fun. It’s what I call a danceable education or a singing paideia, the Greek word for deep education. If there is one person whose spirit I try to embody on this CD, it’s Curtis Mayfield. His music is about love and freedom and really informs. This is a very political album that doesn’t pull any punches. There are critiques of the Bush administration as well as of unaccountable corporate power, unaccountable police power and homophobia. We’re trying to get young people to wake up and recognize they’re part of a great tradition of struggle, to become organized and fight for freedom and justice." The album features appearances from Prince, Andre 3000, Talib Kweli, KRS-one, Rah Digga, Black Thought, Rhymefest and others. Here’s the track listing: "Bushanomics," featuring Talib Kweli "America," featuring Black Thought, Rah Digga, Iriz & Lucky Witherspoon "Still Here" "Dear Mr. Man," featuring Prince "911" "N Word," featuring Tavis Smiley & Michael Eric Dyson "Welcome to Chi," featuring Rhymefest, Neo-Abassy & Malik Yosef "Mr. President," featuring KRS-One & M-1 "Keep It PI," featuring Killer Mike, Doey, Roc & Lucky Witherspoon "Chronometrophobia," featuring Andre 3000 "Gonne Be Alright," featuring Dave Hollister & Chuckii Booker "Matter Of," featuring Lenny Williams "Soul Sista," featuring Daryl Moore "The Man’s Gonna Getcha," featuring Gerald Levert
By: Hot Gossip Gal Well I heard this the other day and I hoped that there was no truth in it but it is coming at me from every angle so I gotta give up the info. There was a minor accident in Atl this weekend, car smashed into another car, the car that did the smashing appeared to be transporting a couple of transvestites who fled from the scene before the driver emerged. Anyhow when the driver emerged it was apparantly none other than Mase stepped out of the whip and then he also fled..leaving the driver of the car that got hit to put him on BLAST on a radio show. Check out the call here. I think Mase needs to decide just what he is looking to do…preach or cross dress and make sure he stands by his choice. CLICK HERE TO LISTEN
By: Hot Gossip Gal Turns out Foxy Brown nearly knocked over a woman while out walking on Prospect Place in Bk the other day. Not really caring about how she came close to hitting the woman and babe, Foxy cursed at the woman and drove off. Does this sound like how we imagine Foxy behaving?
By Quibian Salazar-Moreno The Wayans Brothers’ last flick, “Little Man,” got raked over the coals like it was a beef brisket, but the brothers are still hustling like crazy. Rogue Pictures has announced that it has made a deal with the Wayan’s brothers to turn their comic book, “Super Bad James Dynomite”, into a live-action feature film. Marlon Wayans will star as the main character. "When we created the comic book, I always envisioned playing the title character on the bigscreen," Marlon Wayans told Variety. The comic was created and written by Marlon, Shawn and Keenan (why isn’t Damon working with these fools?) and follows an inner-city blaxploitation anti-hero which is an amalgamation of Shaft, Dolemite and Black Belt Jones. The story follows James Dynomite as he is framed by a rival and sent to prison for years, returning to the streets way out of his league. He must regain his cool and try to take down the man who framed him. The studio hopes that shooting commences later this year.
