Hip-hop’s most solicited hook-man Akon has set a new record in the 48-year old history of Billboard charts. His new single "Smack That" (featuring Eminem) flew from No. 95 to No. 7 last week, achieving the highest climb since the inception of the Billboard. The song’s leap was fueled by its No. 6 debut on the Hot Digital Songs chart with 67,000 copies sold. The "highest climb" record was last held by Vanessa Hudgens, Andrew Seeley, and Zac Efron’s "Breaking Free" which rocketed 86 to 4 back in February.
"Smack That" is the lead single from Akon’s forthcoming sophomore album, Konvicted, which drops on November 21, 2006.
