When Port Arthur, Texas rapper Pimp C passed away in 2007, he left behind a legacy spanning over two decades. During his time in UGK, Pimp rapped and produced some of the group's most memorable songs; from their watershed 1996 album Ridin' Dirty to "International Players Anthem (I Choose You)" in 2007 -- the year of his untimely death -- his music will certainly live on forever. All things considered, it's only right for a posthumous Pimp album to ultimately manifest today. “This album is the culmination of years of work from not just me, but also the amazing artists and producers who contributed to make it happen,” his widow Chinara Butler says of Long Live the Pimp. “It combines several of the ideas and projects my husband began before his untimely passing. We hope the Trill fans enjoy it.” And with guests that include Bun B, Nas, T.I., Juicy J, A$AP Rocky, Slim Thug, Ty Dolla $ign, and many more, Long Live the Pimp is a 17-track long effort that will not only keep long time fans of Pimp C (and UGK) satisfied but give new listeners a taste of what made him so special to the rap game. Waka Flocka Flame has finally dropped his new mixtape, Flockaveli 1.5, after a string of delays. The tape is the sequel to his watershed debut album Flockaveli and the prequel to his forthcoming album Flockaveli 2. The mixtape is currently available as a stream and as free download on Flocka's website. Stream the full project after the jump.
While Waka Flocka Flame attempts to figure out his current label situation, he's looking to keep fans satisfied with new music. Teaming up with Southside and Metro Boomin, Atlanta's most in demand production duo, Waka shares "Blue or Red" from his forthcoming Flockaveli 1.5 mixtape. Sure, it's not quite the ad nauseam promised Flockaveli 2 -- which is intermittently delayed -- but Flockaveli 1.5 is looking to hold us over until Waka gets all this label nonsense sorted. Hit the jump to hear "Blue or Red" from Waka Flocka Flame.
Although Pimp C is no longer with us -- his untimely passing came in 2007 -- his music lives on forever. And with rumors of a posthumous Pimp C album swirling for years, it looks as though it's finally going to happen. Mass Appeal, the label responsible for by Run the Jewels' awesome sophomore album, will be putting out Long Live the Pimp, an album put together by Pimp's widow, Chinara Butler. The project will feature guest spots from Bun B, Nas, A$AP Rocky, Ty Dolla $ign, Juicy J, T.I., 8Ball & MJG, Devin the Dude, and many more. You can listen to the Lil Wayne-assisted "3 Way Freak" after the jump. Long Live the Pimp will be out December 4th via Mass Appeal.
Waka Flocka Flame is the latest artist to join Pitchfork's "Over/Under" series, in which a litany of random topics are evaluated and declared if they're overrated or underrated. In this latest episode, Waka Flocka Flame discusses how he feels about Kendrick Lamar, whether or not he likes emojis, Hillary Clinton and the presidential race, and much more. Check it out after the jump.
While Drake and Meek Mill continue their beef, Waka Flocka Flame has decidedly used their "R.I.C.O." collaboration for a freestyle of his own. Because, like, I thought this was about rap? This is actually kinda refreshing from Waka, too -- he's been a little quiet as of late. Check out his "R.I.C.O." freestyle after the jump.
Apparently Waka Flocka Flame released a song out with Good Charlotte. In case you don’t know who Good Charlotte is, they’re a pop-punk band from the early 2000s. They had songs like “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” go gold in 2002 – further revealing my old age. They’ve pretty much been on hiatus since 2011 and haven’t recorded a new album since 2010. How do I know this? Because I’ve used my Googles. Anyway, this song is for that new Pixels film coming out later this month. Now, the tandem of Waka Flocka, a rapper who is basically losing more and more of his street cred as I type this thing out, and a seemingly irrelevant early 2000s pop group have record a music video for this "Game On" track. Honestly, when I heard this track back last month I was baffled but now, hearing it over again -- along with an equally nauseating video -- I'm convinced this is the worst thing to happen to rap in 2015 thus far. But you be the judge. Check out "Game On" after the jump.
A lyrical showdown is taking place on Skyzoo's newest track. Skyzoo is joined by eLZhi for a lyrical sparring match and it's making Music for My Friends more and more of an instant purchase for me. You can check out Skyzoo's "Hands Folded Together" after the jump, and you can also peep this 10-minute sampler of his forthcoming Music for My Friends.
