Things couldn’t get much better for Cee-Lo Green these days.  As one-half of Gnarles Barkley, Cee-Lo shed his Goodie Mob skin and ushered in a new era in his career as a lead vocalist, spawning the hit “Crazy.”  Now readying his third solo album, the Dungeon Family member sat down with VIBE to discuss his hit “F*ck You” and a surprising offer from Randy Jackson.

.

While American Idol was scrambling to fill the void left by Simon Cowell’s departure, judge Randy Jackson contacted Cee-Lo about taking over for the British music mogul.  Green informed VIBE, “[Randy Jackson and I] talked about it very, very casually.  [He said,] ‘go for it. It’s open.‘”  Cee-Lo continued, “I don’t think I would’ve been up for doing it. I’m not a judge of people. I observe, but I don’t judge people.”  The unlikely duo of Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler signed on as the latest Idol judges for the show’s tenth season in January.  This was definitely a good move on ‘Lo behalf; American Idol’s for washed-up celebrities and people looking for a quick payday.  If you want to legitimize yourself as a musician, becoming a judge on Idol isn’t the best way to keep your talent in America’s minds (does anyone even know who Karen DioGuardi is….thought so).  Likewise, auditioning on American Idol isn’t the best move; if you have talent and want to be successful, find yourself a good agent.

In the interview, Cee-Lo also touched on the co-writer of “F*ck You,” Bruno Mars, who is currently charged with felony cocaine possessionCee-Lo said that he spoke to Bruno on Friday and that “he said that he was a little embarrassed and of course it was an inconvenient incident that hopefully he can put behind him. I believe that his work ethic, his attitude, will outshine the incident overall.”

Cee-Lo’s forthcoming album,The Lady Killer is scheduled to drop November 9th.
