Fashion-forward celebs worked the red carpet at the 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards last night at the Lincoln Centre in NYC. Yeezy was there. OF COURSE Yeezy was there, determined to prove to everyone that he is as ‘in’ in the the fashion biz as ever. He showed up in a white tuxedo jacket, Balmain jeans, and…wait for it… Stubbs and Wootton slippers. Because Kanye can do that; show up to a fashion awards show in slippers and designer jeans. It seems he’s back in the fashion game, especially after he announced he would partner with Stubbs and Wootton to make his own brand of crested slippers. This came about after he spotted a Yale student working them, who he later hired as his stylist (Imagine: “Hi mom and dad, I’m dropping out of Yale law to tell Kanye West what to wear every day…”)
But enough about Yeezy. Let’s talk about Lady Gaga, who rocked a black Thierry Mugler dress, sensibly paired with a turquoise bob wig and black 12 inch platforms. She was named Fashion Icon of 2011 last night, so no surprises there. Estelle wore a gold low cut gown, paired with black heels and a black clutch, letting her dress do all the talking. Joy Bryant and designer Rachel Roy wore dresses designed by the latter, which I am just really not feeling. Their dresses were boring, and were totally eclipsed by the swag that was Kanye’s slippers. Kerry Washington looked sweet and chic in a simple white Calvin Klein shift designed by Francisco Costa. Russell Simmons worked a classic black tux, whilst Chanel Iman looked stunning in a full length cut out Maz Azria turquoise gown.
