Last weekend, during a show at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City, Nas announced that his new album will be called “Nigga” and drop in December. While the media and blogosphere went crazy over the news, Def Jam Records came out on Tuesday saying that it isn’t so.
"There is no album release by Nas on the release schedule at this point," a source close to Island Def Jam Music Group chairman Antonio "L.A." Reid told FOXNews.com. "And they would be unlikely to release an album with that title. How would that look at Wal-Mart?"
The only album Nas is coming out with in 2007 is a greatest hits collection dropping next month. When Nas made the announcement, people like Jesse Jackson and NAACP’s Richard McIntire came out in disapporvement.
"The title using the ‘N’ word is morally offensive and socially distasteful," Jackson said in a statement. "Nas has the right to degrade and denigrate in the name of free speech, but there is no honor in it. Radio and television stations have no obligation to play it and self-respecting people have no obligation to buy it. I wish he would use his talents to lift up and inspire, not degrade, making mockery of racism."
"We will not support and we will not continually be assailed by other individuals who want to use that type of term in our presence," said national NAACP spokesman Richard McIntire. "This has gone on long enough."

  1. hahaha this is what Nas wanted the media has played into his plot again, and yo fareal these news people be getting on my muthafuckin nerve just because he naming his album Nigga? and they tried to make him look bad by editing songs he did that say a bunch of killin not even mention the good songs that have a message in them like “koon picnic” “War” and many others, i never saw the news say anything or bring up a news story about skin head music and how bad and Much worst that music is than Hip Hop is, i mean Rap (Hip Hop is Dead) and to stop the N word you got to start some where else even though its not gonna work just look at the Boondocks they use the N word WAAY more but these people need to understand that nigga isnt going anywhere if they felt strong about that word they should have stopped it, had marches when it was coverted over from nigger a LONG TIME AGO but they didnt and this is there burden now

  2. Nas proves it yo…Media hounds and the industry zombies pick on the freedom in hip-hop. If they actually heard Nas’ music instead just trying to stop it if they can’t get rich from it…they would see he is conscious and mature. So an album with that title, well…come on it’s Nas. There would be a reason.
And the news don’t make it any better. Looking for a reason to slanderize the hip-er…i mean rap industry…for Hip-Hop is dead and gone…Nino Graye

  3. Intelligent comments!!!!! The media has really got their teeth deep in this n word stuff. A subconsious way for them to justify their ignorance to black people. I mean did u guys hear what bill o’reily said? He didn’t know their were civilized blacks in restaurants, particularly black restaurants!!!! Wtf!!! This is their outlook on us!!! And their so damn perfect according to them!!!! Stand up my brothas and sisters!!!! Unite!!!! These other races stick together, lets do the same!!!! Please!!!! They hate us!!!! This is very real now!!!!

  4. Yo NAS is a muthaf#$ckin genius. He does it again, I love this nigga! Man! who eles can get people talkin off just the name of album. First Hip Hop is Dead now NIGGA. Yo he now how to mess with peoples psyche. He on some psychological shit for all you cats don’t follow what he’s doing. Pure genius I tell you!!!

  5. Yo I just watched the interview. Oh my god did you see what the media choose to play to repersent Nas to kill his swagg. That was some fucked up shit! Yo the media is something eles. I hope Nas sue them for deformation of character. Yo how they ask him didn’t he get the memo yo for real that was some racist shit. They trying to use Al Sharpton and Jesse two House niggas to keep us in line.

  6. OK. Now I’ve tried not to curse, but… Fuck these FOX cracker reporters.. suck my! And then the nig.. I mean coons that even went onto the FOX network to try and debate with these inbred right wing pricks. Makes me mad as hell! Nas shouldn’t call his album Nigger. He should call it Nigger, Nigger, Nigger just because. And these crackers got a fuckin nerve getting on their moral highhorse. Their ancestors came up with the term in the first place! And they probably either say it at home or otherwise won’t chastise another cracker for saying it in their company. Fuck a recessive ass, hairspray and starch shirt cracker motherfucker! I hate crackers!

  7. I don’t understand what the issue was, only because a lot of individuals behave, and carry themselves as “niggas”. People should not be offended, if they do not carry themselves in a way that is portrayed as being a “nigga”. What do you consider a “nigga”, other than the obvious?
