After watching the enviable Instagram posts of their legendary and exclusive recording sessions litter our feeds, Dreamville has finally provided a taste of Revenge Of The Dreamers III. Last night, they dropped the first two singles from the upcoming ensemble album, packaged as 1-888-88-DREAM: “Down Bad” and “Got Me.”

Home to a diverse collection of today’s stars — like Ari Lennox, Bas, JID, EARTHGANG, and, of course, J. Cole himself — Revenge Of The Dreamers III comes preloaded with Dreamville talent, sure, but part of the Universal Music Group subsidiary’s presence extends passed their roster and into their influence.

A galvanizing label that preaches dream manifestation, Dreamville consistently attracts high caliber featured artists for collaborations. They’ve done it again with “Down Bad” and “Got Me.”

The former — a Pluss-produced banger that is rooted as much in its captivating sonics as it is its superior lyricism — sets the tone immediately for what’s to come on ROTDIII: Dreamville didn’t come to play.

Featuring Young Nudy, EARTHGANG, JID, Bas, and Cole, “Down Bad” fuses varying instrumental vibes that aptly represent its bridging of hip-hop lyrical disciplines. Nudy, a rising Atlanta star and cousin of 21 Savage, brings the new wave energy with his manipulated voice and grit; JID, fellow rising Atlanta star dominating the new generation from a more lyrical angle, sticks the landing again and again with his acrobatic 16s.

Holding it down the rest of the way, EARTHGANG, Bas, and Cole round out “Down Bad” into a smooth finish.

On “Got Me,” the energetic sonics of “Down Bad” melt into a buttery production, showing Dreamville’s range and equitable musical astuteness. Joining their incredible songstress, Ari Lennox, and Omen are Ty Dolla $ign and Dreezy.

Although the ROTDIII release date is still undisclosed, we have a lot to dig into — and look forward to — thanks to 1-888-88-DREAM.
