Ja Rule Gets Sentenced In His Gun Case!

Wow.  Rappers please stop carrying guns.  It looks like Ja Rule is going to serve two years in prison after copping a plea in his gun case in NYC.  Seems like Ja got a bum deal.  I’m pretty sure Weezy got caught with his gun on the same exact day in NYC and not only did he only have to do less than a year in prison, he’s already out from serving his time.  Also, Ja Rule had a quarter million dollar car?  According to NCBNY:

  • Rapper Ja Rule on Monday pleaded guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon stemming from a July 2007 stop of his luxury sports car. Wearing dark-blue jeans and a black sweater, the rapper said “guilty” and answered yes to a judge’s questions in a low voice.“Because of your guilty plea here today, you’ll have a record of having committed a violent felony. This is a very serious matter,” Manhattan state Supreme Court Justice Richard Carruthers told the rapper.

    La Rule’s lawyer, Stacey Richman, had no immediate comment.

    Specifically, the rapper admitted to a charge that involves attempting to have a loaded gun outside one’s home or workplace.
    Police said they found a loaded semiautomatic gun in a rear door of the $250,000-plus car after it was stopped for speeding.
    Ja Rule was promised two years in prison when he is sentenced in February.

New Music: Ja Rule Shares a Pair of Tracks in “New York Giant” & “Nah!!”

Going away to jail is no laughing matter. Getting out and not being able to readjust yourself back into society is even worse. Ja Rule, the once famed early 2000s New York rapper, has been in and out of the system quite extensively over the last decade -- he's been hit with a gun charge back in 2007. As just when things were looking up, in 2011, Ja Rule received an additional 28-month prison sentence for tax evasion. Good news is he's been out since 2013 (see: pic above) and it's nice to see/hear he's in good health. Unfortunately the music he's putting out could definitely use some jailhouse-like dicipline, for lack of a better word. He's sharing a pair of new tracks here, in "New York Giant" and "Nah!!" Neither one of these tracks is all that popping, to be honest. Hopefully Ja receives some assistance from notable contemporary producers and writers to bring him back to 100% in this modern rap ish. New Music: Your Old Droog – “Unlimited MetroCard” (Prod. Statik Selektah)

Despite residing from essentially the same place (Coney Island, Brooklyn) and sharing virtually the same exact cultural background (Ukrainian-American) I never really messed with rising rapper Your Old Droog all that much. I mean, in the interest of full disclosure and not frontin', I think dude is super talented and a great altogether MC but frankly I'm not "feeling" it, you know? I always find the beats to be dated and seriously lackluster and I can never quite relate to Your Old Droog. Like, who is Droog? But this track right here, with its super kitschy and ultra NYC-indebted song title, is right up my alley, fam. Droog delivers the goods with "Unlimited MetroCard" which is produced by the always reliable Statik Selektah.
