The fourth I’m Him track to receive the visual treatment.

On September 27th, Kevin Gates delivered his highly-anticipated sophomore album, I’m Him. Debuting at number four, moving a total of 70,000 album equivalent units, the technical successor to the standout Islah continues Gates’ streak of crafting impressive projects. Today, the New Orleans artist has come through with the music video for the album’s eighth track, “Walls Talking.”

A track predicated on dark subject matter, as Gates discusses how he feels like a “prisoner in his own mind,” the accompanying visual treatment brings these murky mental waters to life. Throughout it, the theme of psychosis is manifested by interspersed scenes of Gates sitting in solitary confinement and him with friends, but the one constant is that wherever he goes, the screams of the walls and his mind inundate him.

Kevin Gates is known as a hitmaker, penning such massive records as “Really Really” and “2 Phones,” but just because an artist has commercial appeal doesn’t mean that they don’t use their art as a refuge. Throughout his tenure, KG has consistently disguised emotionally-brooding content behind a commercial veil — a trojan horse, of sorts.

“Walls Talking” joins “Push It,” “RBS Intro,” and “Facts” as the I’m Him tracks to receive official music videos.
