Chicago’s favorite R&B son R.Kelly has dropped his feud against Olympia Fields after claiming that the suburban community improperly denied him the right to build a guardhouse outside his mansion. Kelly also agreed to pay the village residents more than $20,000 to cover attorney fees and code-violation fines.
His attorney John Touhy chalks it up to R.Kelly’s graciousness "Robert Kelly wants to be a good neighbor," Touhy told reporters.
The community of 4,700 residents, 20 miles south of Chicago, doesn’t allow guard shacks at houses and sued Kelly after the building was constructed without approval. Kells counter-filed, arguing that he should be granted an exception to village code because of his status as "a nationally known, Grammy Award-winning recording artist."
R.Kelly is currently awaiting trial on 14 counts of child pornography stemming from a tape that allegedly shows him having sex with an underage girl. He was arrested in June 2002 after police received the tape anonymously.
