First off I want to recommended to all of you guys that you pick up Snoop’s Malice In Wonderland which is in stores now.  Rashaan and I were recently discussing the album, and we both had the same reaction “this Snoop album is actually pretty f*ckin good”.  I don’t know why that came as a surprise to me.  I think it has to do with the fact that Snoop is bigger than his own music.  I guarantee you that pretty much anyone in America knows who Snoop Dogg is.  That doesn’t mean they would be able to name a song by him.  It’s ironic that a dude who came into the game with one of the more serious “gangster” facades, has become the Uncle Snoop that everyone seems to love.

How did he do this is my next question?  Well what i’m slowly starting to realize is that Snoop is one of the smartest rappers in the game.  One thing that Snoop has never gotten credit for is his tremendous knowledge of music.  I remember having a discussion with music producer Hi-Tek about how Snoops knowledge of oldies music was impeccable.  No one else could even touch his history game in the studio. This is one of the things that has led Snoop to become a pretty proficient producer himself.  Not a lot of people know Snoop produces under possible the best alias of all time, N*ggerachi.  Don’t believe me? Just check out “Shut You Down” a track Snoop produced off the very slept on Bacc To Tha Chuuch album that dropped in August.

His business swag is also not to be played with.  The guy most recently dropped his own GPS system, which for some reason I cannot get over. What an ingenious idea.  This is just the latest addition to Snoop’s empire which consists of movies, tv shows, and numerous other sponsorship deals.  The guy even opened up the New York Stock Exchange recently.  Honestly what other rapper can do that?  Maybe Jay-Z, and that’s a maybe.

Inherently my point is that we take Snoop for granted.  How am I surprised that Snoop’s new album is good?  This guy has been delivering classic, yes classic, music for nearly as long as i’ve been alive.  He’s everything we want a rapper to be.  No one seems to ever talk sh*t about him on the internet.  The exact place people go to anonymously slander artists.  He is a man with an untouchable brand.  An impressive feat in the roller coaster world that is hip hop.

Check out a recent interview between Snoop & Conan O’Brien below where they touch on numerous things that Snoop is up to.
