“It’s lit”

Travis Scott has enjoyed a monumental year off the strength of his acclaimed, long-anticipated Astroworld album, which contains his most successful song of his career (“Sicko Mode”), culminating in his sold out amusement park ride of a concert tour, WISH YOU WERE HERE TOUR. But just because 2018 is drawing to a close, that doesn’t that his success and ascension are slowing anytime soon.

The NFL has tapped Travis to perform at this year’s Super Bowl LIII halftime show. A huge look for Travis given the gargantuan viewership that this year’s game will certainly garner, this performance is still met with some polarization.

It’s no secret that the NFL has a contentious relationship with the black community given its severe mistreatment of Colin Kaepernick and his taking a knee movement. Multiple hip-hop and R&B superstars–like Rihanna and Jay Z–have refused the NFL’s request to perform at previous Super Bowls to uphold the stance against what this organization represents.

Regardless, it’s comforting to see hip-hop’s ubiquity reach this scale. Knowing Trav, he’ll make everyone proud.
