Will Smith will soon join fellow hip-hop artists Jay-Z and Nelly as co-owners of an NBA franchise if his bid for a stake in the Philadelphia 76ers goes through.

Smith,38, is one of several investors interested in purchasing the Philadelphia 76ers from Comcast Spectacor, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. Four groups are currently in the running, including one that led by Hall of Famer Julius Erving.

Erving played most of his professional seasons with the Sixers before being inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993.

Two finalists will be announced by the end of the month with the winner selected by the end of the year. The winning bid is expected to exceed $400 million.

  1. No doubt, It’s great to more some minority ownership behind the scenes
in the NBA. Only thing is Dr. J and Will are part of the same investment group (they are not competitors). They are still discussing collaboratin’ together against several other groups to buy the team……

    still good info Rizoh..
