Quibian Salazar-Moreno You may have thought that Casual was on a milk carton somewhere but the Hieroglyphics emcee has been hustling hard the last couple of years with albums Smash Rockwell and The Champion. But the album more people maybe checking for is a collaboration project with Casual and rock-pop band Maroon 5, slated to drop sometime this summer. "We hit it off right away, and the next day, on a lark, I sat in with them during their sound check,” Casual said about meeting the band at last year’s Bonnaroo Music Festival. “I knew all of their hits because I had been listening to them on my tour bus, so I freestyled over a few of their tracks and it sounded amazing.” The rapper and the band kept in touch and emailed tracks back and forth and agreed to put together a “summertime party album”. For those unfamiliar, the lead singer of the band, Adam Levine, appeared on the Kanye West track, “Heard Em Say,” from the Late Registration album. Ritmo Latino, the nation’s top Latin music chain, is refusing to carry any Jennifer Lopez CDs in any of their 50 stores because they’re saying J.Lo straight up dissed them. “She has refused personally to promote her new CD in any of our stores,” Ritmo Latino CEO David Massry told the New York Daily News. “We’ve supported her from the beginning. Now we’re told by her record company she will only visit Anglo retail outlets. This is a Spanish-language CD, and if she wants to discriminate against the Latin community, then we will not sell her product. This is not the first time this has happened. Celebrities have this notion that when they reach a certain level of crossover appeal, they forget quickly where they started." Massry also said that J.Lo is refusing to appear at any Latin-only record stores as well and will not only refuse to sell the new album, but also her entire discography. The rift grew after Lopez made an appearance at an F.Y.E. in the Bronx last week where she signed autographs for fans who bought her album.

Screen Gems has tapped Brown to star in Phenom, a story about a young basketball player who just turned pro and found out that he’s the illegitimate son of an aging NBA star. They then find themselves going head to head in the NBA Playoffs. There’s no word on when production will start or when they plan to release the film. This will be Brown’s third film for Screen Gems, the first was “Stomp the Yard” which came out last year. The second is “This Christmas” which will hit theatres in November.

He recently signed up for Tough Love a family-friendly comedy inspired by the life of former New England Patriot d-back Tebucky Jones. Cube will play a tough NFL player who realizes his kids are soft and spoiled. So in order to toughen them up, he takes them to his old hood in the streets of Oakland. Cube’s new family comedy, “Are We Done Yet?”, hits theatres on April 4. To celebrate the release, Starz will be showcasing various Ice Cube interviews and films. Starting on April 2, Starz will show “On The Set: Are We Done Yet?”, then follow it with Are We There Yet and XXX: State of the Union. On April 3, StarzInBlack will air “Close Up With… Ice Cube” and then show Higher Learning, Are We There Yet?, xXx: State of the Union, and I Got the Hook-Up.
