Strange Music has entered the first quarter of 2013 proving to still be an independent powerhouse with the release of Kutt Calhoun’s latest album.  Black Gold, Calhoun’s fourth album with the label, cracked the Billboard 200 at number 120, selling over 4,200 units.  The album features guest appearances from label mates Tech N9ne, Brotha Lynch Hung, and Krizz Kaliko.  The release week was relatively calm with the exception of Ill Bill’s third studio album The Grimy Awards.  The Grimy Awards had less than impressive digital sales, leaving many pointing the finger at iTunes, as the digital retailer did not offer The Grimy Awards as an album until this week, forcing fans to purchase each track individually or turn somewhere else. In other news, Wu-Tang affiliate Cappadonna dropped a double album that only moved 300 copies in its first week.  It’s worth mentioning that the album was absent of Wu-Tang Clan features.
