album sales week of 5/11

Boondox “South Of Hell” – 8,733 (4% digital)
Bruno Mars “It’s Better If You Don’t” – 5,402 (ALL digital)
Sage Francis “LI(F)E” – 3,904  (26% digital)
Ace Hood “All Bets On Ace” 218 (100% digital)

.

This Boondox release is pretty interesting to me.  Dudes sold 8,000 + records physical first week.  Have you ever heard of them before?  No.  Neither had I.  But when I went and did my research about Psychopathic Records, and realized that this is Insane Clown Posse derivative, and that this label clearly just knows where all the face-painted freaks fans are in the dutty south, it started to make a little more sense.  Actually, this is some of the best niche marketing I’ve seen.

.

As usual, if there are any albums that you’re curious about sales on, just let me know, and I’ll include them.

Till next time, peace.

UPDATE:

According to the New York Times, this was the WORST week for album sales since nielsen started tracking data in 1991.  The top selling album sold 60k this week (justin bieber).  Total album sales across all titles were 5.3 million units.

Now, here’s my challenge.  For everyone saying that the music industry is dying: take those figures.  5.3 million album sales, means that the sale of recorded music in album format generated roughly 53 million dollars last week.  Compared to some hedge funds, that’s pretty weak, but in my opinion, this business has to be able to figure out how to be profitable and successful off of that, cuz 53 mil ain’t all that bad now, is it?
