If you’ve been following this column week-in and week-out, you should already know that Strange Music is a force to be reckon with. The indie conglomerate founded by Tech N9ne did it again this week with the release of Krizz Kaliko’s fourth solo album, Kickin’ & Screamin’. If you’ve never heard of Krizz, I highly recommend checking him out. Don’t let his crazy face paint and disposition as Tech’s hypeman fool you; he’s crazy talented. This week also saw Killer Mike and El-P’s collaborative effort, R.A.P. Music, score a spot in the top 100. The album, which is entirely produced by El-P, has been well received by critics. Aside from those two releases, Top Dawg Entertainment’s very own Ab-Soul has stayed in the top 200 with his latest offering, #ControlSystem. The album has moved over 7,600 units digitally since its release on Friday May 11th. Oddly enough this album does not appear to have been released under TDE’s joint venture with Interscope.
Krizz Kaliko “Kickin’ & Screamin'” – 9,516 (37% digital)
Killer Mike “R.A.P. Music” – 5,341 (68% digital)
Ab-Soul “#ControlSystem” – 7,664 (100% digital) (week-and-a-half total)
