If you’ve followed this column long enough, you will realize that there’s more to album sales than just iTunes. Case and point; Kid Ink’s debut, Up & Away. This album has been sitting comfortably atop the iTunes Hip-Hop chart for the past week, but did roughly 1,500 less in sales than Waka Flocka’s latest album, Triple F Life. This is because Waka has a fan base that actually goes out to stores like Best Buy and FYE to cop physical copies of his album. With that said, who knows what Kid Ink may have scanned if he released Up & Away on CD. For those wondering if SpaceGhostPurrp or J Dilla would see the Top 200 with his posthumous release, they didn’t. Together the two releases only scanned a mere 1500 units. I personally expected Purrp to scan over 1k alone, but I guess his web buzz hasn’t entirely transitioned into sales, as is the case with many trending blog artists these days.
