So Cudi beat Drake, but you can’t front on Drizzy (even if you’re not a fan). Dude sold 70k copies of his joint, which has been available for free for a hot minute. That’s kinda impressive. As you can see, Trick Daddy’s numbers are disappointing for him. But you always have to keep things in perspective. The KRS-One and Buckshot album, which sold less than that, should be marked in the win column for Duck Down. M.O.P. not so much. And N.O.R.E... damn. And now, on to industry news…

• Sony to offer catalog on Amie Street
Amie street, (which was founded by some friends of friends at Brown University), didn’t necessarily revolutionize digital music sales, but certainly presented an alternative model that is catching on, with popularity-driven variable pricing. Sony’s catalog won’t be available at a completely variable rate, the tracks will all be priced in one of three tiers. Still tho… it’s an interesting development
• Ringtone Sales continue to slide
Forecasts show that revenue will decline for the second consecutive year down 15% to $750 million from its $880 million peak in 2007. (image from Hypebot.com)

• MySpace and Hulu working on Video Site to compete with Vevo
MySpace is positioning itself for yet another facelift, makeover, whatever, as an “entertainment hub/portal” according to Mr. Murdoch.
• Music Sales? Dying… Video Game Sales? Dying… Smartphone App sales? … Ballin’!
Research shows that by 2013 (right around the same time that physical CD’s are supposed to become “obsolete”), downloads for smartphone apps will be a $4.2 billion market. Keep on the lookout for this explosion specifically on Blackberry and Google Android devices, as the iPhone market is already saturated with apps.
Not that this is THAT interesting, but the outcome will be.
