The inaugural single from Free Spirit.
With Khalid’s sophomore album, Free Spirit, slated for an April 5th release, next Friday, the platinum-selling artist has come through with the project’s first single, “Self.”
Produce by Hit-Boy, “Self” drunkenly walks a reverb line, almost falling over itself without ever fully tripping to provide a woozy instrumental that Khalid handles with ease. An introspective exploration, the inaugural Free Spirit single finds the 21-year-old artist wading through his past, thorns and all, while walking towards his future.
Free Spirit will also be accompanied by a short film — a one-night screening to be released on April 3rd — that will further contextualize the album’s narratives by exploring the waves and troughs of Khalid’s life to date.
