assassins-creed-10Each week I’ll be discussing some of the most anticipated video games that will be coming out over the next few months.  The first game I’d like to discuss today is Fifa 10, which comes out for all consoles on 10/2/2009.  After years in the basement of the soccer video game world, Fifa has emerged recently as the best soccer game on any of the next generation consoles.  I recently played the demo of the 2010 version of the game, and I was very impressed with the adjustments that EA has made to make this the most comprehensive soccer video game to date.  Upgrades were made on ball control, shooting, and to the manager-mode game type, making Fifa 10 an early favorite to continue its reign as the best soccer game on the market.        fifa10

BioShock was one of the most innovative video games of the past few years.  It abandoned the hours of gameplay some games require to finish the story, and replaced it with a story that could be played completely differently each time.  This shorter approach with more variety was a hit with fans, and the ability to switch between whichever power you wanted (going from shooting fire out of your hands to telekinesis to shooting bees at villains, etc.) was a huge hit with fans.  BioShock II: Sea Of Dreams is more of the same, offering the gamer a much more in-depth look at the Utopian-like world “Rapture” that exists under the Atlantic Ocean in the early 1950s.  The powers are still there, as are many characters you will recognize from the first game, but the story seems to be much richer this time around, giving plenty of back story to what we were introduced to in the first game.  BioShock II: Sea Of Dreams doesn’t come out until February 2010, but it is definitely something to look forward to.bioshock2titlenodreams031909-580px

The game I’m most anticipating, however, is Assassin’s Creed 2, the follow up to 2007’s epic tale about…well, it’s too complicated to say in one breath, but basically it is about an evil corporation in 2012 trying to find an 700 year old secret by mapping and tracking the brain and DNA memories of Desmond Miles, who is the descendent of a long lineage of hitmen, one of whom was involved in a scandal all those years ago.  Sound confusing?  Well, it is, but it’s a lot easier understood if you play the game.  The first game was, without a doubt, an amazing leap forward for video games in terms of using your surroundings, but it was very repetitive in most aspects of its gameplay.  Apparently, that has all changed, as Ubisoft, the makers of the franchise, focused greatly on making the game unique and cohesive without repeating missions or actions over and over again.  The trailer that premiered at E3 this year is mind-boggling, and announced what this new game is all about: A later ancestor of Miles’, now living in in Renaissance-Era Italy.  Look out for Assassin’s Creed 2 in stores November 2009!
