Diddy Gets Exposed

Former Bad Boy rapper, Mark Curry, is taking shots at Diddy by exposing the rap mogul’s business relations, style and his estranged relationship with the late Biggie Smalls in a book entitled “Dancing With The Devil“. Mark Curry is an Atlanta-based entertainer who was signed to the Bad Boy Entertainment record label from 1997 until 2005. He wrote most of Diddy’s first hit singles, including 1998’s “Come With Me”, featuring Led Zeppelin.

According to Curry Biggie was allegedly trying to leave Bad Boy and create his own record label with Junior M.A.F.I.A. prior to his death in 1997. Curry says:

Biggie was already on his way out the door, and I just remember the stories of when Biggie would want money from Puff — and they would be doing a show and Biggie wouldn’t show up to the show until ten minutes before the show and Puff would be like ‘Where is he at, where is he at?’ and that’s where he would be his leverage. Like, Biggie knew that Puff needed him… If you break it down and look at the situation for what it truly is, Biggie Smalls made Bad Boy. Bad Boy is Biggie Smalls… A person like Mase that come to Puff and wants a record deal, automatically is willing to do anything he’s gotta do to have that deal because he automatically — he asked him for a record deal. So you gotta look at it like, you willing to sell your soul for this sh*t right here.”

During his experience as an artist on Bad Boy, Curry claims that artists were not as financially stable as they appeared..

“I think the only person, man, that came away and walked off with a little bit of money is Mase and that’s praise God for the church, because you know on Sundays, when they be taking that offer, that’s good money,” Curry said in an interview last year. “So we can’t say he’s not doing nothing. As far as any other artists, if you can tell me another Bad Boy artist that’s doing good, I’ll listen to you, other than that, I can’t waste my time trying to think ’cause I don’t think there’s one that exists.”

Curry’s new book Dancing With the Devil also speaks on Diddy’s business style and his relations with the artists on his roster. An exerpt from the book states:

“Even worse, Puff charged the artists for his appearances on their records and in the videos, usually without their realizing it until they received their royalty statements. That’s when they discovered that a large sum of their money had gone to fees which were doubled, tripled and even quadrupled because of Puff “special guest appearance”. He charged artists, for example, for having his Bentley in their videos — which he insisted upon — then took a tax credit for business use of the car.”

This Mark Curry is painting a picture of Diddy that we all kind of already knew exists…How else could he have been so successful without stepping all over the little people? But insisting on  having an artist use your personal Bentley for a music video and then charging YOUR artist for it? That’s just straight up wrong.

Nelly Resurfaces

Rapper Nelly recently resurfaced and announced plans to release a solo self-titled album which he says will feature the return of his St. Louis rap group, the St. Lunatics. Although he wanted to release it this year, Nelly says the new album should hit stores next year. He says:

“I definitely got a new project, we were trying to get it out before the end of this year but it looks like it’ll be at the top of next year, I just wanna make sure it’s right, and it’s definitely coming. The album is bananas so be ready. I did a little bit of different [sounds]. I worked with my man Polow [Da Don], I’ve worked with Play-N-Skills, we did this joint with Akon that’s crazy. The joint I did with Polow, I did with Plies on it. I got a joint that I did with Sean Paul that’s crazy, as well as my family, as far as the Lunatics goes, my little brother City Spud, he’s no longer locked up no more, he’s out…[The title] is just Nelly. I don’t want to say it’s the ‘best’ album, but just get ready.”

Well I guess we’ll just be waiting for this “bananas” record and until then I think the industry will be just fine.
