BEEF!  Educate yourself.  Check out this great hour long documentary about classic hip-hop beefs.  For those of you out there who are young and didn’t come up with this classic, old-school culture, this is a great chance to learn some of the history behind hip-hop.  It features interviews with everyone from 50 Cent and Jay-Z, to Davey D, Russel Simmons and countless others who helped establish, document, promote and define hip-hop culture.  Seriously.  Educate yourselves…  And maybe it’ll inspire you to go and (re)discover some music you aren’t too familiar with.  I watched this last night, and have been bumping “No Vaseline” all day long (no homo).  Part I (below) features segments on the origins of the modern rap battle (Kool Moe Dee vs. Busy Bee), as well as KRS-One vs. MC Shan (the prototype for the neighborhood beef, and the birthplace of the line “Manhattan keeps on making it, Brooklyn keeps on takin it, Bronx keeps creatin it, and Queens keeps on fakin’ it) and a section on Ice Cube and N.W.A. This is Part 1 of 8, and they’re all online available for streaming view.
