From relative obscurity to amassing over 5MM monthly Spotify listeners, few artists have enjoyed the two-year explosive ascent that Roddy Ricch has. At only 20-years-old, the Compton artist has received co-signs from industry standouts like Meek Mill, DJ Mustard, and Nipsey Hussle; he’s dropped several eight-figure-streamed tracks, like the Marshmello-assisted “Project Dreams.” Pairing his innate melodic abilities with his pensive lyrics, Roddy Ricch is buoying to the surface of the dense burgeoning music scene.

Furthering his case for one of his generation’s more promising artists, Roddy has returned today with second single of 2019, “How It Is” featuring Chip and Yxng Bane–it is the successor to the previously mentioned “Project Dreams.” Released alongside the Luke Biggins and Ashleigh Jade-directed video, “How It Is” paints a matter-of-fact portrait of Roddy and co.’s realistic perspective on life, emanating from living life at the bottom before rising to the top.

Now that they’ve made it, that the days of trapping are in the rearview, Roddy can reflect fondly on how his work ethic and success have draped him in designer clothing and icey jewelry. Being exposed to life’s extremes, Roddy has a holistic perspective that he distills cathartically into the SpeakerBangerz production.
