Donald Glover is a transcendent talent.
Donald Glover, AKA Childish Gambino, can’t seem to cool down. The same man who is playing Lando Calrissian and voicing Simba in the upcoming Star Wars and Lion King is also topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Traversing unfamiliar territory, Glover’s latest song and accompanying video for “This is America” is now officially number-one on the charts–his first number-one record.
The song’s beautifully-expressed social commentary is perfectly complemented by its addicting music–both conceptually and sonically. Unsurprising given how intelligent and damn talented Gambino is, he weaves between styles of quick-cadenced rapping and enchanting singing a la Awaken! My Love to produce a dynamic offering, but also to auditorily represent the song’s context.
Simply put, “This is America” deserves Billboard’s number-one spot, and much more.
