Jay Critch Comes Through With A Heater, “Cameras”

The Hood’s Favorite, Jay Critch, is a unique musical bridge. While the Brooklyn MC is signed to Rich The Kid’s Rich Forever label, an imprint of Universal Music Group, he retains more of nostalgic finish to his aesthetic. Critch seems to value storytelling over melodics, lyrics over ad-libs, while still beautifully complementing his labelmate’s nuanced approach — after all, he’s a crucial leg of his label’s eponymous mixtape series’ tripod.

Today, Jay continues that dualistic style with his new song, “Cameras” featuring Nick Mira and jetsonmade.

Going in over a lo-fi production, akin to Xxxtenatcion’s earlier work, Jay and company speak on the double-edged sword that is fame. Sure, their bank accounts have grown in proportion with their swelling statuses, but with increased exposure comes decreased privacy. “Cameras” speaks on the other side of celebrityhood that is often glossed over in today’s rap.

Just as he does stylistically, Jay Critch provides both sides of a coin conceptually.
